Check the “Log on using dial-up connection” box if you are dial up, or if you are on DSL with a modem/router provided by the phone company.

Choose a network connection:
Dial-up sites must use “Dial-in to USPS PRN(AD)
DSL sites must use USPS VPN
Click connect
Verify your user name and password
Click connect
How to change password
Control/Alt/Delete
Click on Change Password
Type in your old password
Type in a new password
Type the new password again
Click OK
This changes your ACE password, which is used to login to various
postal web programs
Backup procedures:
There is an ACE Workstation Backup icon in your system tray or use Start>Programs>ACE Workstation Backup
Schedule Tab: schedule your backup. Choose a time when you are logged off your computer but you will leave it on. This will create a backup file automatically every week. It will also show if your last backup file was written to disk in the Media column.
Manual backup tab: You can do a manual backup on demand. For example, you have to send your computer to IT for repairs. Check “include shared data”.
Create media tab:
will write the backup file to disk so you have all your computer
information stored on a disk in your office.
Use CD-R disks, not CD-RW. This tab will open automatically when you
log on to your computer and there is a backup file that has not been written to
disk yet.
Click “Copy backup ZIP to media”
Click CD Writer
Click Write to Media
Put a blank CD in your CD drive and click Yes. If this window pops up again, click yes again.
When it is finished, take the CD out and date it with a marker.
Outlook
View tab: Outlook bar, folder list, preview pane
If you always like to see full drop down menus, click on Tools>Customize>always show full menus
Click on headings to sort inbox by received date, from, subject.
Color: View>Current View>Customize Current View
Click on Automatic Formatting, Click on Add
Name the rule
Click on Fonts, choose a color, click OK
Click on Conditions, click on From, select name, click OK, OK, OK.
Out-of-Office Assistant
Tools>Out of Office Assistant

enter a reply if you want

Folders:
Create an 18 Month folder in Outlook Today
File>New>Folder
Name it (perhaps FY 2007, your town name, or 18 month), click the Mailbox-(name and town), click OK
A subfolder will appear under Outlook Today with the new name
Create .pst folder for long term storage (stored on your computer hard drive, not email server. You are responsible for their security and backup. They will not appear in Outlook on a different computer or when you are on Webmail).
In Outlook, File>New>Outlook Data File…
The “New Outlook Data File” window appears; ensure Personal Folders File (.pst) is highlighted and then click OK.
The “Create or Open Outlook Data File” window opens; in the File Name box enter a name of your choice (ie Personal Folder). Accept the default file location and click OK.
The “Create Microsoft Personal Folders widow appears; in the Name field enter the same name as used above for the file name. Click OK. Having the same name in both places associates the Personal Folder name viewed in Outlook with the actual file name.
You can create subfolders in any folder. Name the new folder and click on the folder you want it to be a subfolder of (Inbox, 18 month, or Personal .pst). It will have the same retention period as the folder you choose. Create a Sent Items folder in your 18 month folder:
File>New>Folder
Name it Sent Items, click on your 18 month folder, click OK.
Create rule to move messages sent by me into Sent Items (18
month folder).
Tools>Rules Wizard
Make sure it displays Inbox (default,
or use dropdown menu)
Click New
Start creating a rule from a
template
Move new messages from someone
Click on people or distruibution
list, type your name, click From, click OK
Click on specified, click on
the Sent Items folder under your 18 month folder, click OK
Click Next, Next, Next, Next.
Name the rule “from me”, check turn on this rule, click Finish
Click and drag is easiest
Can also right click, Move to Folder, click on the folder you want to move it to, click OK.
Can move several messages at a time:
Click first in a series, press shift, click last in the series, Then click and drag to the folder
OR Press and hold control, click the messages you want to move, let go of control, then click and drag to folder
Save an attachment:
Open the email message
Over the attachment do a right click>Save As
When you get to the Save As window, make sure you are in My Documents, browse if you want to.
If you want to save it in an existing folder:
Browse to the folder you want to save it in
Name the file, if needed.
Click save.
If you want to create a new folder for the attachment:
Click on the Create New Folder icon (file folder with a star)
Name the folder, click OK
The new folder should appear at the top of the Save As window.
You can name the document in the file name.
Click Save.
The document will be saved in the new folder you created in My Documents
Attach a document to an email:
Your document should already be saved and closed.
Open a new email message
Enter To, Subject, any message you want to add
Click on the attachment icon (the paperclip)
Usually My Documents opens. Browse to the document’s location.
Click on the document, click Insert.
You should see the file attached in the Attachment line.
Click Send
Keep a copy of an email you sent in your 18 month Sent Items folder
New email
Click on To, type your name, click on Bcc (blind copy-does not show up in the other To or CC lines)
Click OK
Enter other names in the To textbox, type your subject, and body of the email
Click send.
Since this email is From You, the copy you sent yourself as a Bcc will go automatically to your Sent Items folder in your 18 month folder because of the rule we sent up.
Saving emails and attachments:
First decide if you need the whole email or just the attachment.
If you need just the attachment, save the attachment in My Documents or subfolder.
If you want the whole email, decide
how long you need to keep it. If you
need it for this year or a less, drag it to your 18 month folder or
subfolder. If you need it permanently,
drag it to your Personal Folder or subfolder.
Calendar
New Appointments
In Calendar, click New
Type in the subject, click on the date and time (or all day event)
Can set a reminder to chime before the appointment (can change the lead time)
Recurring tab: Time, pattern, ending date, click OK
Click Save And Close
Calendar Views: 5 day will show tasks (can easily add new tasks here)
Printing your calendar
click on the printer icon
choose monthly view, start the 1st of the month, end the last of the month
click OK
Internet Explorer
Favorites: click on the Favorites button with the star (next
to Search) and the list will stay open til you close it (click on the little X)
Add Favorites:
Navigate to the website
Click Favorites(in the top menu
bar)>Add to Favorites
Name will show in the text box,
you can rename it if you want
Click OK
Now a shortcut link will show in
your favorites list AND drop down menu
History: icon on the toolbar opens the list of where you have been. Categorized by parent website and listed with folders. Open the folder, then click on the link. The history list will stay open til you close it. Very handy for going back to sites while exploring.
